Unlock Play

Sir Ken Robinson dedicated his life to encouraging the educational system to shift from a standardized approach to one of personalized learning. He wanted to help create more individual opportunities for each student. His idea was to develop individual programs to support students in their lifelong journey of discovering their individual gifts and talents.  Carl Jung called this process finding their element, and Sir Ken Robinson wrote a book by that name.

Robinson strongly believed that when students come to learn, they come with open hearts and minds. They do not come to fit into a repressive system of standardized testing and rote learning, where their only goal is to memorize information so they can pass the next exam or meet the teacher's needs. Sad as it may be, successful students quickly learn how to fit into our educational systems at the loss of finding their element.

Dr. Peter Gray explained we don't want everyone to be the same. We need all kinds of people and their different ways of thinking. This can mean the rule followers, collectors, inventors, and visionaries. To keep children, youth, and adults engaged in lifelong learning, educators can work to help them find the key to unlocking their passion—their element.

No one teaches a baby to babble, play, or how to learn though play. Play is the key.  Students are not empty vessels waiting to be filled. They are active participants, curious to learn and learn though play. Each student, no matter their age, comes to school with a hidden key called play. Our education system is in the best position to help unlock the talent this key unlocks. To unlock the potential in your students, consider starting by first finding their unique Playsonality™.  Not only can this be the key to engagement, but it may be the key to unlocking their superpower.
