Play Lab Hong Kong 2026
From May 23–27 , 2026, the Strategic Play Team enjoyed a new adventure, taking us to the vibrant city of Hong Kong. We were there for this year's highly anticipated Strategic Play Conference: East Meets West. This was the very first time we have taken the annual conference to a location outside North America, and the setting couldn't have been more perfect. We were thrilled to share insights and engage with all the eager attendees.
Our conference kicked off with an inspiring keynote on the Power of Play, setting the tone for the days ahead. Stephen Walling took the stage to demonstrate the polarities of play, employing an innovative approach that utilized eight LEGO bricks as sorting tools. This engaging exercise invited participants to physically move from side to side based on their preferred play styles, using colored bricks as markers to signify their choices.
Once participants identified their four preferred bricks, they sorted themselves into groups of "Like Me" and "Not Like Me." This interactive activity fostered fun and connection and it also opened up the conference to a deeper exploration of how adult play can enhance creativity, collaboration, and engagement in various settings.
We would like to extend a big thank you to the Hong Kong organizing team, led by Brian Tang and Joe Leung, whose dedication and hard work made this event a success. We also want to express our gratitude to the presenters who shared their insights and experiences, enriching the conference for everyone. This event was truly and wonderfully interactive and collaborative.
Attendees came from across the globe, traveling from London, the UK, Canada, and the USA, exemplifying the spirit of our East Meets West theme. As participants delved into their own self-sorted Playsonality™ and shared insights with each other, we witnessed incredible conversations and flourishing connections.
We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with such an enthusiastic group, and we look forward to continuing the dialogue on the importance of play in adulthood.
