TOGA's professional life has been characterized as competing for opportunities. First he attended a highly selective university and then was one of the few selected for training as a fighter pilot. After a decade of flying, he began competing for advanced educational opportunities and was able to study at a premiere strategy school and earn a History PhD. TOGA then served as the Dean of the US Air Force leadership school and the Commandant of the strategy school. After retirement, he joined the faculty of the Savannah College of Art and Design as a Professor of Design Management, where he continues to study the value of play and games for innovation, leadership, and strategy. Whether in the classroom or in workshops, he continues to use his experience as a fighter pilot, commander, innovator, and award-winning educator to elevate the performance of others.

TOGA's personal interests include triathlons, reading, and writing. He loves the discipline of training, the energy of competition, and the camaraderie of shared challenges. He also enjoys playing sports and board games with his family, where he tries not to appear too disappointed when he loses!

Ever since he was young, TOGA was mesmerized by flight and the idea of pushing the physical limits of our bodies and our aircraft. While he no longer is an active pilot, he is still fascinated by the notion of pushing our imagination in order to “go above.”
